Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

credit card balances

My Mom passed away in January and left several credit card balances. She was named as an heir to inherit land from her dad when he died, but the land was never divided and she was never deeded any land.

Her will left everything she owned to me.

Can the credit card companies force me to sell the land?

Re: credit card balances

Whatever credit card balances your deceased mother left due and owing, are chargeable to her estate and not to you as her heir. It is the task of the executor of the estate to collect up the assets of the estate and pay the legitimate bills of creditors which are chargeable to the estate before making any distributions to the heir(s)named in the will.
