credit card debt

I have a credit card debt that I can no longer pay after my divorce.. I am self-empl.. a hairdresser.last year my imcome was a minus.. .I only own a 2001 pontiac car and that is all.. this is a unsecure credit card..so can they do anything about my wages or take my car for this debt? Would I have to appear in court?

You can be sued on this debt. You don't have to appear in court in response to such suits, but the result will be a judgment against you (which, for that matter, will probably be the result if you do appear). You can try to settle, but if that does not work, after they have a judgment they can require you to appear in court to answer questions about your assets and income. They can also garnish your wages/income (if paid by, for example, the owner of the hairdressing shop), or levy on your property (car). Depending on the equity in your car, it may be exempt from levy, but that may be a hassle to deal with. You may want to consider filing for bankruptcy - see an experienced bankruptcy lawyer and discuss whether you should.
