Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Received Overpayment

I was fired from a job in March and recently received the money I had put into the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. I received a check in September and then a couple of weeks later received a second check for the exact same amount. Then yesterday I received a third check.

Morally I know what the right thing is but if I decide to keep the two checks sent to me by mistake, is the company allowed to recoup the money from me?

Re: Received Overpayment

Yes, the company would be allowed to recoup the money from you and, perhaps, at a time when you could least afford to pay it back.
