First offense of any sort. Attending Universtity.

Officer says she doesn't need a lawyer, she'll probably get community service and probation. Your thoughts?

Although in Virginia so-called "DIP" charges no longer carry a possible

penalty of jail time, relying on a police officer for legal advice

in a situation in which a defendant has been charged with a crime is never advisable.

Tell her to at least schedule a consultation with an attorney

with experience in such matters and who should be able to advise her, accordingly.
