Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Adopted Guatemalan

Dear Law Guru, My sister adopted a little girl from Guatemala in early 2007. She has had problems adjusting to her. The little girl has had food issues and my sister does not attempt to understand why. She is has been called dummy, among other names. My relationship with my sister is not the best. I have been living with her and her family for the past 6 months. I have asked my sister to treat the little girl better, but she says it is none of my business. Her adopted daughter reminds me of a child Cinderella. This situation disturbs me. In a few days my sister and her family are moving to California. What can I do?

Re: Adopted Guatemalan

Unless the child is clearly being abused by her adoptive mother, not much I would say.(All such incidents of abuse should be reported to Child Protective Services on the agency's hotline.)
