Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

change of custody agreement

My husband curently has visitation with his daughter, he wants equal timw with her as her mother has I think it is called joint custody at that pint, we can not afford a lawyer and were thinking of doing this onour own since nothing he is asking for is without reason. is this a smart thing to do or would we be wasting our time. he now has wed, fri and every other weekend with roating holidays and 3weeks in the summer. we want to go for every other week in the summer, every other weekend, rotating holiday, 1/2 of spring break and 1/2 of winter break when school is in. the child in question is now 4yrs old and will be 5 in march so school won't start untill next year, we are willing to give up the every other wed when she starts school to make it easier on her for school work.

Re: change of custody agreement

What you are proposing is sufficnetly involved that you would be well advised not to attempt to handle it on your own without an attorney.(If the parties are in agreement, one attorney could probably draft a consent order reflecting the proposed custody changes which could then be presented to the court having juridiction over the matter.)

If you cannot afford to hire an attoney for this particular task, perhaps, one of the low cost legal services providers in your area might be able to assist with this matter.
