Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Hello.

My ex and I share a child but do not have a visitation agreement. He signed the birth certificate and an acknowledgment of paternity. He was present both financially and physically for our child until a few months ago when I decided to break up with him. Now he wants to see him but doesn't want me anywhere around... I wouldn't normally oppose to it expect that he made threats (during our arguments) about keeping him and filling for full custody...I am worried he's not going to return him after a visit and because we never went to court he would have an advantage because he filed first....My question is the following: Do I have full custody of my child even though I never went to court? Even if his dad signed the birth certificate?

Thank you.

Yes, as the natural mother of this child, you have full custody until a court

of proper jurisdiction enters a valid order deciding otherwise.
