Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

My daughter found a phone. she used it for a couple of days for texting. the owners sent her a message on the phone that they were going to contact the police if she did not return it.

she returned it. now the owners are pressing charges against her for robbery and they are telling me i have to pay $400.00 the phone company is charging them for the texts. i am the mother. am i legally obligated to pay the bill?

No, but your daughter may be if she's the one who ran up these charges.

(If your daughter truly found this phone, she cannot be legitimately convicted of robbery.)
