Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Disrespect - Verbal Abuse By Supervisor

For the 2nd year in a row I am scheduled to sing the National Anthem with a Military Color Guard at a very large annual public event. This is not a work related activity. My boss came into my office this morning to ask several questions about the event including one about what I would be wearing - I told her something red-white & blue just like last year. Her reply was ''good - everyone there will know you work here so I don't want you dressed like a whore.''

I feel compelled to resign. Would I have any legal recourse for unemployment if I do so?
