I have had to miss some work due to unforseeable difficulties with my pregnancy. Can I be written up or terminated for doctor's appointments related to my difficulites with my pregnancy.

Probably not, but in an employment at will jurisdiction such as Virginia, if an employer wants to get rid of an employee, they can usually find a way which doesn't violate federal anti-discrimination laws and pink slip the hapless target with impunity.
