Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

human resources/vacation pay

Can a company, Banfiled Pet Hospital, force it's employees to take their earned vacation pay when they do not have a relief vet to cover the hours posted? The regular vet takes the same vacation every year for three weeks, it was submitted in June 07. The company now says they do not have a relief vet and the team will have to use their vacation pay if they are FT. PT will get nothing. FT only earn 1 week vacation, and were never told they can only use it during the vets vacation time. Corp. policy says FT must get 32 hours.

There are two other hospitals in the area with PT employees, it was suggested by the manager that the FT employees work at other hospitals and the PT does not get the hours- this was turned down.

The employees must also take computer training but the company says they will not pay for this but it is a requirement of the company in order to get raises and maintain they employability.
