Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

Do I have a pursuable case? My employer fired me for having a difference of opinion on how he handled another employee that reported to me; but instead of saying that on my termination letter, he accused me of fraud and conspiracy - just so I wouldnt be able to claim for unemployment benefits. Can I sue him for defamation of character?

If I need to make payment arrangement with you, please call me on my cell phone. I am overdrawn on all accounts at the moment trying to make ends meet for me and my two young children.

Yes, you might possibly have a viable claim for defamation but many more relevant facts would be needed to establish this with greater certainty
