Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

I work for retailer. As an end of year bonus they gave out gift certificates..the gift certifications could only be used at that retailer. I see my next paystub and had been taxed for the bonus.. is it right to be taxed on something that I can only spend the way they want

Yes, I believe that it is legal. However, whether the practice is "right"

is likely a matter of one's moral interpretation.
