Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

co-tenant says we need to give her 60 days notice we're moving out

myself, my friend J and my other friend C moved into an apartment

together. very soon afterwards, J and i realized that we'd made a

mistake: C was an extremely disrespectful roommate, and that's putting

it lightly. she stole from us, allowed her two dogs to go to the bathroom

in the house, didn't let us sleep, etc. so J and i decide we can no longer

live with her, and tell her that we are going to move out in a month. C

immediately decides she doesn't want new roommates and therefore is

going to also move out. we all agreed on a period of one month to find

new apartments and find new tenants. we all agreed that J and i would

immediately start looking for new tenants. two days later, C comes home

and says her parents told her that she has a legal right to 60 days' notice

and that she now wants two months to find her apartment but she might

find one before that. so now J and i are expected to pay another month's

rent on someplace we won't be, -and- we can't look for new tenants

because she can't decide when the move-out date is. we are not her

landlords, nor are we requiring that she move out. does she actually

have a right to 60 days or is she just trying to screw us over?

Re: co-tenant says we need to give her 60 days notice we're moving out

Just who are C's landlords, her parents? Your question fails to clarify this issue and whether friend C has a right to 60 days notice or some other period would depend upon the terms of the lease which governs your occupancy and which, unfortunately, appears to be another item which is totally unclear from your question.
