Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

After entering into an apartment lease agreement for one year with two other parties, they have decided they aren't going to pay their part of the lease. I've talked to the apartment management with no luck. I'm only able to pay my 3rd of the lease. What are my options to avoid this going to collections and subsquently on my credit report?

Pay the shares owed by the others until the lease expires and then sue these individuals to recover these sums.
