Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Under the Landlord Tenant Guidelines - I am in the navy, while I was out to sea on a 5wk training session, my lanlord ended my lease. I was initially under a year lease, then after the year was up it changed to month to month after Nov 2010, because I am due to deploy in June 2011. But, she stated that her mother is dying and needed the room I was renting from her, and tried to call me to give me a 30 day notice, but while out to sea I cannot be reached. I left my rent check for the month with her and she cashed it, but removed my items to a downstairs apartment being reinovated and changed the locks before my return. She knew my return date, and upon my retunring at the end of the month I was forced to quickly find another place, my question is, can I request my rent for that month back?

Of course, you can request it, and, if she declines to comply

with your request, consider suing her in your local small claims court.
