Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

An Abstract Of Judgement

A plaintiff was informed that a judgement that they received was declared void because an abstract of judgement was not filed by the plaintiff.

What is the definition of an abstract of judgement?

Whose responsibility is it to file an abstract of judgement after a judgement is granted?

What documents are needed to collect a judgement with?

Re: An Abstract Of Judgement

An abstract of judgment is an official court document which is a concise compendium of

the key facts concerning the judgment which was rendered by the court in favor of the judgment creditor, and which in the general district court will normally be valid for a period of at least 10 years.

Such abstracts of judgment are quite often recorded in the judgment lien book of the circuit court in the locality where the judgment was originally ibtained.
