Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Not Accepting Cash Payments for Rent

I recently took my NALP and learned that if we as landlords refuse to take a tennants rental payment, simply because it is in cash, that tennant could legally not have to pay rent for that month because we refused to take her payment. what i am trying to find out is where would such a ''law'' be so that i could bring this to my company's attention. can we legally refuse to take cash as payment?

Re: Not Accepting Cash Payments for Rent

You may find it in one of the provisions of the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act(VRLTA),

which is codified in S55-248.2-248.40 in the

Virginia Code.(Available online.)
