Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

who must repaint apartment

I have a verbal agreement from the property manager of the apartment I rent that it would be fine for me to paint the apartment (any color) just as long as it was light enough for the old color to cover it once I moved. I verbaly agreed to prime the walls (no matter the color) before I vacate the property. Now That I have given my 60 day notice the apartment manager left a note on the door that I have to repaint the apartment back to the origional color myself. I want to know the rights I have stipulated in the Landlord tenent act.

Re: who must repaint apartment

Give wriiten notice to the property manager, reminding this person of the oral agreement which

you both had concerning the repainting, and that you expect none of your security deposit to be withheld due to the fact that you have not(and will not) return the unit to its former color----since this was not part of what was agreed to.

Be prepared, if necessary, to file your claim for

your security deposit in small claims court.
