Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Lease question i need help with

My roommate and I live in Virginia, and are renting an apartment. The lease expires the 1st of May with a 30 self-renewing clause if no notice of move is given. We must give a 60 days notice. My question is since my roommate gave his notice over 60 days ago does him giving notice also apply to me? The question restated, do both my roommate and i have to give notices or just one of us?

I recently found out that i'm going to be out of the country for the summer and i want to get out of my lease since there's no sense in paying for a place i'm not using.

Re: Lease question i need help with

The answer to your question should be contained

within the provisions of your lease agreement

as to exactly who is required to give notice of termination and under what circumstances.

If there's ambiguity in the lease itself as to

this issue, such will be construed in favor of the

lessee(s) in deciding the matter.
