Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Non married purchased house 1 wants to sell other not

I purchased a house with my boyfriend. He lived in the house but never gave me money towards the house payment or towards the bills. He broke probahation and is back in jail.

He wants me to sell the house and I don't want to, what can I do legally since he never paid for any of the payments but his name is on the paperwork?

If by the term "paperwork" you mean that your boyfriend's name is on the deed as well as the mortgage instrument, then he is a co-owner of the property who would have the same rights as you have, including a right to sue for partition in circuit court which could result in the forced sale of the property and a division of the proceeds between the two of you.(If that were to occur, you would, of course, ask the court in making such a division to weigh accordingly your far greater contributions to the accumulated equity.)
