Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Real estate transactions

I was hired by an attorney to assist in a real estate closing office doing loan closings. I had never closed a loan before but the attorney was willing to hire me and train me. I watched someone close loans for about a day and then I was left to do all the closings by myself including complicated legal and title issues. The attorney offered no help or guidance and I only saw him once the whole year I worked for him. After I quit he audited the accounts and found loans overdispused/non-reconciled and now wants to charge me with a crime for this. Is this possible??????

Re: Real estate transactions

You could be liable, civilly and/or criminally, if you took any funds or knowingly diverted any funds. However, the lawyer sounds like the one at fault, both criminally and in terms of losing his license, as he is ultimately responsible for how the accounting was done. Get yourself a good lawyer, as this could get nasty.
