Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

following too closely section 46.2-816

I was driving the company truck in mid morning (10.20am) to an out of town job when the police car after riding my tail for 5 minutes turns ''the blue lights''on. I was driving 60mph with myseat belt on,pulled over and got to learn from the state trooper I was following the tractor-trailer too close... The charge is described as ''following too closely ( 1.5 car length as 60mph)''. I wasn't on the phone and the road had all my attention. I read the law section explanation and still don't know where did I do wrong... I am ready to fight this unfair charge and hope to get some advice from you soon.So far it's been a good joke for everybody. Thanks

Re: following too closely section 46.2-816

Go to traffic court and contest the matter, telling the prosecutor assigned to your case on the morning of the hearing what you've stated here. Perhaps, it may also be worth mentioning that the police car itself which was tailing you may also have been "following too closely".
