Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Do you have to appear in court for reckless driving

My Husband received a reckless driving ticket in Lexington VA on interstate81 doing 85 in a 65. We live over 100 miles from this jurisdiction. Is it possible to plead guilty before court and pay the fine. Does he have to appear in court knowing that he will be convicted of this? If this is possible in Virginia, who would we possibly contact to get this resolved, or does he have to appear in court?

You cannot pre-pay reckless driving in VA. You must appear. You should contact an attorney in Lexington to represent you no matter what. You are always better off with an attorney.

Re: Do you have to appear in court for reckless driving

If there are any mitigating circumstances underlying your husband's case, it's possible that he might get the charge reduced to one such as Improper Driving. However, in order to do this he would need to appear in court, personally, on the day scheduled for trial with defense counsel, if at all possible.

As to other alternatives, you might wish to contact the local prosecutor's office to see what arrangements might be worked out.
