Relative pass away and the Will states to leave the house to a John Doe, what is the process of transfering the house to John Doe and how long does that process usually take. Thank you

John Doe (assuming he's not a joint survivor)as the beneficiary under the will must await the completion of the probate process which

can take up to 14 months in Virginia but can take less time if there are no contested issues and the estate of the decedent is not unduly large.

Once the estate has been probated(and the order of distribution rendered), John Doe can then arrange to see an attorney to have the changes to the deed made and recorded to reflect the new ownership of the property.
