Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Child Support

The father of my child is a navy desserter. I filed for Child Support in California in 2005, the paternity test was scheduled for May of 2006. A week before the Paternity test, he disappeared and no one has seen him since. I need to know how i can go about trying to locate him, and force him to submit and to pay. PLEASE help me.

Re: Child Support

There is no magic way to locate a deserter; it is the same process that is used to locate anybody who may be a fugitive, look for him to come to his family and friends. These are the same places that law enforcement will be looking for him. If he does not go to them or does not surrender, then catching him will be largely a matter of chance, e.g. getting caught for a traffic offense, (because no law enforcement agency will be actively hunting for him). If he does not turn himself in he will almost certainly be court-martialed, and if convicted he may be reduced in rank, confined with loss of most of his pay and then discharged. Some employers would be disinclined to hire him, and I would not expect him to have much of a prospect of income for some time.

Re: Child Support

Alternatively, you could hire a private investigator to locate him. My experience is that they can trace people efficiently and find them.

You have to find him before anything else can happen.
