Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

failure to follow parenting plan

My son falsely accused me of domestic violence. I was neither charged nor arrested. I am suppose to have him every other weekend according to the parenting plan but have chosen not to have him visit me or accept any of his calls until I see his bad behavior change. Can I get in legal trouble for not following the parenting plan.

Re: failure to follow parenting plan

Yes, you can. You have an obligation to the other parent so they have regularly scheduled time that they can count on. A unilateral decision on your part likely is not called for in your plan.

there may be an alternative dispute resolution in your plan - you could review it, and see if that would help you and the other parent figure out how to deal with this without you facing fines and potentially jail time.

You'll want to have a consult with a local family law attorney who can help you straighten this out.
