How do I ask the court to reduce the amount of alimony being paid?

Depending on the language of your current decree, spousal maintenance (it is not called alimony in Washington) it may not be modifiable without agreement. I'd have to see the language of the decree to say for sure.

Assuming for a moment that it is, then you would file a motion to amend the decree of dissolution. The ins and outs of how to do that are beyond what I can write in this space and unless you are a dedicated layperson with time on your hands, I suggest that you hire local counsel to help you or better yet to at least assess whether you have a shot at getting what you want. If hiring a lawyer is out of the question, then look around for a lawyer willing to do it pro bono or at reduced rates or perhaps an organization with low cost attorneys.
