Retaliatory action

the company i worked for for 9 years refused to allow me to accept a job offer in december of 2002 with a frachisee of the company. they told me i had to wait 3 more months and than i could. in march of 2003 they sold my store and the position i was offerd back in december was no longer available and so i no longer have a job. also they are refusing to pay me my time accrued vaction and sabbatical.

is this legal what they have done?

I can't answer the question based on what you told me. What authority did they have to stop you from taking a job with their franchisee? (for example, a non-compete agreement) Did they promise you something in return for stopping you from taking that job? Maybe the promise is enforceable if it is specific enough.

This situation is worth calling and talking to a lawyer about.
