Legal Question in Personal Injury in Washington

Boyfriend wrecks car

My x-boyfriend took my car without my permission and was involved in a traffic accident. The accident was his fault. Will I be held responsible even if I told him under no circumstances will you take my car? Maybe a signed letter stateing he didn't have my permission?

Thank you

Boyfriend takes car

First, let me commend you on the choice to make him your EX boyfriend.

In answer to your question, assuming you were not negligent in making the car available to someone you knew would take it, legally you are not at fault. (Although liberals might want to make you at fault since they tried to pass a law making gun-owners liable for crimes committed with their guns even if someone had stolen it.)

It will be an issue of fact if it goes to trial. Thus, a written statement from your ex would be the best thing. Best to talk to your insurance company as soon as possible.
