Legal Question in Personal Injury in Washington

Broken Glass in Food

I was eating at a fine dining restaraunt and bit down on a piece of glass in my food. I cut my outer lip and my gums. I was bleeding. I went to the doctor to get it checked out. The restaraunt offered to pay for my medical expenses and buy me dinner for two. I told them that I believed there should be compensation and I wasn't really interested in eating there. They asked me what was I thinking of as far as compensation and I told them I'd get back to them. What should I realistically ask for by way of damages. It's been four days and my mouth is still sore.

Re: Broken Glass in Food

The Moon?! There are several issues here. First, clearly the restaurant is motivated to settle. Bad publicity is obviously a concern. Second, you were injured. You have medical costs along with the pain and suffering you endured. On the other hand, this matter won't make you rich. If the cuts were superficial and 100% healed within a short period of time you can probably look at getting a couple thousand plus medical bills. Maybe a little more. An attorney might be able to get more for you. Attorneys will take about 1/3 but they understand the game. The restaurant will not freely hand over a couple thousand without an insurance company stepping in. And they are skilled negotiators. Let me know if I can be of assistance.
