Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

When two people marry in a community property state (Washington) does this combine assets aquired before the marriage or just those aquired after the marriage? Is there a way to protect your assets & keep them seperate?

A properly drafted prenuptial agreement can maintain or change the nature (i.e., whether they are community or separate) of assets that will survive the effect that marriage would otherwise have on assets. Doing this properly and effectively requires that certain safeguards be observed. Do not try this at home.
