Re: Divorce and inheritance

Generally inheritance is not considered a marital asset and remains separate unless the person who received the inheritance deposits that money in an account with husband and wife or deposits into an account already existing with husband and wife. Best to keep separate if want separate later. Finally, if the money has always remained separate it is considered non marital but the appreciation in value would be marital if you worked at increasing the value. If value increased without any assistance from you then it is not marital.
