Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

Getting and attorney when you dont qualify for public defender but still cannot

What can I do if I have been turned down for Public Defender assistance, and yet cannot afford to retain a private attorney? I have no criminal record, I have a wife and family, but I have a preliminary hearing comming up in just a few days, and I now have no representation.

You can attempt to contact either the local Lawyer referral service or local attorneys that are willing to take either pro bono or reduced fee cases. In some instances an attorney may be willing to provide a payment plan with some sort of money upfront as the retainer. This will depend on the attorney and the facts of the case.
