republishing
my publisher wants to rename and republish my songs. Is that a good idea?

Geez, talk about asking a loaded question!
It all depends on the rights agreed upon by you and your publisher. Intellectual property is a specialized specialized area of law and should never be treated lightly. If you have a publisher then you know your intellectual property has value. An attorney with the proper knowledge and expertise can guide you to through the best means to reap the value in your work.
It would be unwise of any attorney to answer your question without much more information and most likely some active participation in your transaction.
