Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

court order payment

I received a letter from Wisconsin last week to make a payment on child support interest. I'm unable to do so due to not being able to work do to my health. I have several health problems and currently trying to get on disability. I am under a doctors care from the VA hosital. I send a letter to Wisconsin explaining me health conditions along with a letter from my doctor stating the fact that I'm unable to work. Could you please give me some indication on what is going to happen next, will I be arrested for not being able to pay this? This worry is making my health problem worse. I don't know what to do, and if I'm ordered to appear in court, I'm unable to make that 7 hour drive. I hope you can help ease my mind on this. Thank you sincerely.

Re: court order payment

Hello,

Call the court and see if you participate in the hearing by telephone. If you are ill and can't work and don't have enough income to pay what is ordered, it is not likely you will go to jail. That usually only happens if someone can afford to pay and does not.

Best wishes, Mark J. Mahoney
