Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Wyoming

Principal not giving student full rights!

I am a student at a High School in Cheyenne Wyoming and have started a christian club on campus after school. However my principal will not allow me to promote my club (posters, flyers, ect.) Isn't that breaking the equal access act not allowing me to promote my club. Other club are allowed too but the princial says that this is different because it is seperation of state and church. Is the school breaking the law or do I not have a good understanding on the equal access act? Please Help

Re: Principal not giving student full rights!

I presume you attend a public school. Things work differently in private schools.

Based on this presumption and the limited facts you have provided, I'd say you're right and the principal is wrong. The school should treat religious clubs exactly the way it treats secular ones. If the only difference between your group and the secular clubs you mention is that your group is based on religion I think the First Ammendment (not "the equal access act", though your state may have such a law and it may strengthen your position) is on your side.

But if there are other differences -- for example, if other clubs are actually sponsored by the school but yours just uses the building after hours -- and other organizations that share those differences are not allowed to put up posters, then his decision was probably correct. As I said at the outset, you provided only limited facts so I cannot be very definitive in my answer.
