I am unsure what you mean by "your law firm" but I am assuming he means that he is stating he is a "law firm" trying to collect a debt. By telling you he could take you to jail would be a major violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) Some debt collectors lie and say they are with a law firm, or affiliated somehow with a federal or state policing agency. There are no more "debtors prisons". Therefore, if you know the name of the collection agency he is "working" for, you may have a claim you can bring against him for a FDCPA violation. Feel free to contact my firm as we do FDCPA work or a firm in your area that handles these types of cases.
