Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

Ex Boyfriend Sueing for Washer & Dryer

My boyfriend at the time and I acquired a washer and dryer that he paid in cash for OUR use where WE lived in my apartment. I bought the components (plug, drainpipe, etc) so the washer and dryer would work. I used it all the time, he barely touched it. He used to pay the light bill, even thought it was in my name. 3 weeks ago he broke up with me and left. I gave him back everything BUT the washer and dryer. I told him it was ours and since he didn't pay the light bill I sold it to cover that loss. Now he tells me he is going to sue me for the washer and dryer. That he is telling his lawyer I stole them, then sold them. But it was considered ours, even if he paid for it. He didn't acquire a receipt upon the purchase and I am afraid he will get a friend to forge a receipt to help him win his case. Either way I don't have the washer and dryer. However, I did offer him the $30 for them. What is the worst that can happen to me?

Re: Ex Boyfriend Sueing for Washer & Dryer

This is petty and would be hard pressed to get a lawyer to handle something that he would charge more for than the value of what your boyfriend is seeking to recover. Not likely to happen.
