on call compensation

are employers required to compensate employees who are required to be available for call in while off? This is limiting employees' activites while being away from work.

You have identified the key issue, which is how much your personal freedom is being restricted. The courts look at all of the facts of the case, including, for example, whether the employee has a fixed time within which to respond, and how often the employee is typically called in.
