Divorce

I got married at the Atlantis in Paradise Island back in

2000.

Want to know the appropriate steps in getting a divorce.

I reside in New Jersey

Where the marriage ceremony was performed is not important. Residence is important. If you have resided in New Jersey for a year you are entitled to file for divorce in the Superior Court of New Jersey based on whatever grounds you have for divorce. Because New Jersey is a no fault state, the threshhold for having grounds for divorce is not very high. Hiring an attorney is recommended because a divorce deals with important financial issues and may determine the custody of and visitation with children of the marriage.

Either you or your husband must have resided in New Jersey for at least the past year.
