Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in California

Juvenile Rights

My son incarcerated after awol from placement. it has been one year, within the year he was beaten by the probation staff in los angeles, which i was never notified until I saw him during a visit. The officer of the day assured me there would be an investigation, no one was held accountable. After this incident my son became very ill and depressed several attempts of suicide even hospitalized for 4 months in mental facility, he was just release 2 weeks ago put back into juvenile hall where he struck a probation staff while in my presence and a room full of visitors. the probation staff he struck caught off guard immediately start punching my son about 5-6 times in the head instead of restraining him. It took 2 fellow officers to pull him off my son. Since the first incident my son has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia, we have a strong family history we are trying to get his case trans to mental health court but while we are waiting im afraid for my sons safety. They do not like my son and have no clue how to handle a mentaly ill child. What are my rights? how can I help my child? Several famlies witness the accessive force used by probation staff. Can I sue and where do I start? helpI want to protect my child

Re: Juvenile Rights

I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance. This is not a juvenile dependency issue. The categories I would place this question under would be civil (tort) litigation, and civil rights. It sounds like there are some serious civil rights issues/potential violations. I'm not sure those categories I referenced exist in this system, but you may want to seek out a lawyer who handles these types of civil rights cases in prisons/juvenile hall. And I would talk to your son's public defender to see what he/she can do.
