Legal Question in Administrative Law in California

How can I show that I was forced to sign something I don't agree with? I was advised once to place an asterisk after my signature, but the person who advised it lives in another country and I am not sure if that applies to the USA as well.

Quite simply, you will need to present evidence that shows you were forced to sign the contract under duress. Evidence can take many forms. Obviously, if there were some acceptable notation (asterisk or such) that proved you were coerced to sign the contract, those forcing you wouldn't have allowed you to do it.
