A Chapter 7 bankruptcy will temporarily stop a foreclosure, but you will need to negotiate with the lender to get caught up is you want to keep the house after the bankruptcy is over. In a Chapter 13 bankruptcy will allow you to propose a repayment plan that will allow you to get caught up on the mortgage.
