Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Collection on a payment that no service was ever received

I was enrolled in a school and I signed a contract agreeing to pay for this course. I was making monthly payments as I was taking the class. The instructor was teaching could no longer teach they cancelled class. They then cancelled class until further notice. The class was rescheduled a few weeks later. The instructor who they got new nothing. We complained, they got another instructor. They cancelled class again until they find one. They then found one who did teach the class. The next session of the certification was cancelled until they could find an instructor this is already the third time. They call to tell me on weds that the class was going to be on. That means cancelling my other arrangements. Then on friday they tell me its not going to be on. They do this a few times until finally I got fed up and told them. I cannont be cancelling my other classes for them. I paid what I took and that I do not feel i should pay the entirer amount. They then told me that they would get back to me. I don't hear from anybody not even the loan company until just last week I got a phone call from a lawyer who said they are going to take me to court unless I pay. The amount they told me is not what i owed.
