Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

question about legal action

i was contacted last week from a ''ron brown'' who claimed to be working for nco financial group. he said i owed them a debt of $668.60 from cross country bank, which i know about. it is my policy not to deal with debt collector's but the original creditor. i told him this and he said that was not possible. i told him i was unable to pay off the full debt as this time since i am on avery limited budget and could not afford it. i also told him no one would lend me the money. he said i had i had 24 hours to come to a decision on this matter. at this point i was pretty sick to my stomach. when he called back the next day, i asked him politely but firmly if i could get written verification of this debt, according to the fdcpa. he flatly refused. i then asked to speak to his supervisor which he also then refused. he then started spouting terms such as ''fraud on my behalf'' and taking legal action against me.'' i hung up on him at that point. he never called back. i then reported the company to the bbb and the ftc. i then sent them a cease and desist letter which arrived yesterday. i also receieved written proof of the debt yesterday from nco. is there a time limit for them to file a claim against me after the second call from them?

Re: question about legal action

I would need to review the verification of debt and any other collection letters you may have received from NCO. Please fax them to me at 714 363 0229 along with your phone number and I will call you Monday to advise you if there is any violation of the F.D.C.A. by NCO or if there is a statute of limitation problem.
