Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Quick Loan Lawsuit

A lawyer called me yesterday asking me to call them. I returned their call this morning and got a voicemailbox to which I left a message. A return call was made to me, it was that same lawyer saying I applied for and received a quick loan years ago and never re-paid the debt. I asked if I could call her back on my personal line (I was at work) on my lunch break so we could discuss. This is the first I am hearing of this debt and I absolutely want to pay it! I have called the number she gave me (the same I called and got a voicemailbox to which I left a message) and that number is no longer a valid line. I do not have this lawyers name - this phone number is the only contact I have for her. What can I do?!?!

Re: Quick Loan Lawsuit

Whoa nellie! Do not call the other lawyer just yet! Exactly how old is the debt? You may not legally have to pay if it over a certain age, usually 4 years from the due date of the last payment. But you could give up this right inadvertently by agreeing to pay or by making or agreeing to make a partial payment. There is also the question of whether this "lawyer" really owns the debt. Consult a lawyer in person, do not get your legal advice from other peoples' lawyers.
