Statute of limitations on freight charges

What is the statute of limitations for a common carrier to file suite for unpaid freight charges? Also, from what point in time does this measurement start (ie.,shipping date, billing date, date freight bill placed with collection agency)?

The answer will depend on the mode of carriage (air, sea, land), whether it was intrastate, interstate, or international, and the terms of the contract of carriage.
