If the creditor files a lawsuit against you, you do not answer, and a default judgment is taken, the judgment creditor can levy a portion of your wages, bank accounts, and assets, to the extent permitted by law. It sometimes helps to communicate with the creditor, who might be willing to work with you to defer payments for a month or two. There also are consumer credit counseling services that might help you make your payments more manageable.
