If convicted or plead to any charges, yes, records are forever. An experienced attorney may be able to obtain a plea bargain that would avoid that problem, as there are several ways of handling this. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me if the case is in SoCal.

Theft charges should always be fought vigorously if possible, because the record will stay with you forever. If at all possible, bring an attorney to court with you.
